Girls In Action, Inc.(GIA) was founded by Ikisha Little, an established business owner in the metropolitan area of the District of Columbia. GIA is a community-based
non-profit organization that focuses on the development of young ladies between the ages of 8 and 18.
Ms. Little visualized the Girls In Action program while pondering avenues to donate her time to her community. She realized that today’s youths are in need of love, motivation and guidance. As a result, Girls In Action was born!
The program is designed to EDUCATE, EMPOWER and ENCOURAGE young women to become leaders. The program will include, but is not limited to, goal-setting, building self-esteem, personal development, self-awareness, health, wellness & physical fitness, holistic healing, etiquette and time management. GIA will provide guidance on how to make friends and avoid negative peer pressure and sex education. Tools for education and financial growth will also be included in this interactive and engaging program.
GIA will plant seeds of beauty and self-worth in the lives of young women, so they can mature into confident young ladies. The premise for the program was discovered during a conversation with a young lady in the Sursum Corda community that many young women struggle with self-esteem, anger management and spiritual guidance. Accordingly, one of the mottos for the program is “ALL KIDS ARE OUR KIDS!"
Girls In Action will engage female adolescents, ages 8-18, in multiple activities centered on improving their minds and spirits while tapping into their creativities, while simultaneously teaching life skills. Research has shown that programs that enable young women to develop an understanding of their potential to become exceptional human beings are desperately needed in many urban and rural communities throughout the United States.
We especially recognize the Sursum Corda Community for its unwavering vision and support for the establishment of GIA and their eagerness to allow the organization to utilize their community facilities nested in the heart of the community. Through this center, girls will have the advantages of a community environment and participate in the many skill-building programs that Girls In Action offers while building and discovering a path to real success for themselves.
GIA would like to thank the many talented women and men in advance who will make a commitment to this worthy cause by volunteering their time and resources to reach and inspire girls!
